USA Cycling announced today the creation of a new professional cross country mountain bike series designed to recognize the top off-road racers in America. The USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour presented by Sho-Air (ProXCT) will consist of seven UCI sanctioned events throughout the U.S., providing world-class athletes with a consistent stage on which to ply their trade. Throughout the series, competitors will have the opportunity to accumulate international ranking points, as well as series points, resulting in overall individual and team champions at the end of the season.
New mountain bike category system now in effect for 2009 licenses
Last September, USA Cycling announced the development and implementation of a new mountain bike category system that took effect for the 2009 racing season. Now that 2009 licenses are on sale beginning Dec. 1, all mountain bike members are reminded of the new category system and that currently licensed Semi-Pros will have the option of receiving an automatic upgrade to Pro status for the 2009 season or registering as a Category 1 rider. Click here for the original release explaining the category changes for 2009.
First-ever Mountain Bike Summit brings industry members together
The first-ever USA Cycling Mountain Bike Summit went off Nov. 14-16 in Colorado Springs with the simple goal of providing a forum for industry stakeholders to share ideas. The three-day conference offered a variety of industry members the opportunity to collectively meet and discuss direction and changes within the sport, share best practices and develop initiatives to advance mountain bike racing in the United States. The 45 attendees took part in several colloquiums involving USA Cycling staff and industry experts on Saturday before participating in round table discussions surrounding a variety of topics on Sunday.
Fort Lewis and Appy State take home Collegiate Mountain Bike Titles
Fort Lewis College narrowly surpassed host Lees-McRae College to win the Division I team omnium competition at the 2008 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships. Even fewer points separated Division II champions Appalachian State University and second-place Colorado School of Mines. The top individual scorers in both endurance and gravity events were also awarded individual omnium crowns following Sundayandrsquo;s dual slalom contests.
Omnium contests tight heading into final race of Collegiate MTB
After strong performances in Saturdayandrsquo;s short track and downhill contests, only a pair of points separate Division I leaders Lees-McRae and Fort Lewis College in the team omnium competition heading into the final race of the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships. The Division II field displayed an evenly disbursed depth of talent with six schools in contention for the omnium national title before Sundayandrsquo;s dual slalom competition.
Collegiate cross country champions crowned
The cross country competition kicked off the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships on Friday as nearly 200 collegians raced through the campus of Lees-McRae College for the second year in a row. The first day of competition set the stage for an old-fashioned shootout between host Lees-McRae College and last yearandrsquo;s overall team winner Fort Lewis College in Division I, while riders from nearby Brevard College and Appalachian State earned the Division II menandrsquo;s and womenandrsquo;s crowns respectively.
Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals set to go
Providing the proving ground for many of our nations rising fat tire stars, Lees-McRae College will once again host the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships, October 23-26 in Banner Elk, N.C. The event will conclude on Sunday with the coronation of the overall team and individual omnium national champions in both Division I and II as defending champs, Fort Lewis College and the Colorado School of Mines, will seek to regain the glory of last yearandrsquo;s team victory.

Mad March Racing - Private Coaching

I'm not a bad rider. I can get down most things without parting company with my bike - most of the time. I even I tried some downhill racing again this summer and I'm pleased to say it went ok. I even made the podium at one of the first races but I had no idea this would be the shining pinnacle of my race season. As the summer continued my riding improved and the speed built but somehow I only managed to hold my place in the ranks. There were still a few old boys who were just, well, faster. If only I could find a few seconds per run, I'd be chasing the win and not the podium. What to do? Phone a friend!

After talking to a few people it seemed all those who'd tried MMR coaching were raving about it, so I put it at the top of my to do list.

Megavalanche in Peru 2009

This is a brief story of the Megavalanches in Peru and also an invitation to join us for the next Megavalanche in 2009!

The Megavalanche Race started in Peru in 2005. At that time the local riders from Cusco were just a few XC riders. Now it's amazing to see how this race has motivated the local people from Cusco to leave their XC bikes and try to build their DH bikes. Now everybody in Cusco loves to go fast, jump and of course they are strong enough to learn by crashing constantly.

Rocky Mountain Flatline Pro: Preview of a Review

What is long, squishy, and white and red? No, not that candy cane that you just found under the couch cushion...although I'm sure that is still ok to eat. What I'm talking about is Rocky Mountain's new top flight Flatline Pro DH bike. Don't get too excited as the review is still a ways off, but due to sheer boredom (the large amount of snow will do that to me) I've put together a little "preview to a review" article to get your blood flowing during these cold winter nights. Inside we have got Wade Simmons on video from 'Vegas to give us the low down on the Flatline, as well as far too many pictures!

Read on.....

Breath of Fresh Air for the New Year

Riding an Epic trail near Mt. Salkantay in Peru

This is a story of an EPIC ride in Peru. It's Epic because it's located on a remote area of the Peruvian Andes, because we have descended more than 4,000m (13,123ft) and we have reached Machu Picchu.

Peru is getting known as one of the most extreme destinations for mountain biking around the globe. We have been showing great trails that we have on our Andes Mountains. Long lasting descents with more than 4,000m (13,123ft.) are not easy to find like in Peru!

Pinkbike Christmas Party - Burning rubber and Women go well together.

Everyone looks forward to Christmas time, regardless of your religious beliefs. Everybody has a hard time sleeping, wakes up with cold feet, stays up late, and wakes up early. Christmas time is a time of year that everyone is happy with. Excessive breaks from work make it an exciting holiday with lots of time to visit with the girlfriend, wife, kids, chairlift, whatever you may need to spend time with.

Another evening we all look forward to is your Christmas Party with co-workers. You have yelled, argued, fought, swore, screamed, and praised your co-workers all year, and now is a chance to enjoy a night out with them, where no work will be talked about. The work Christmas Party is an awesome event to end the season on, so here's a small write up on what we did this year.

29 days of November - The Chambers' Chronicles

This fall has been a very unique experience for me. Normally I spend my fall and winter up in the Northwest Territories working in the exploration industry looking for diamonds. With the unfortunate market crash, there has been a shortage of work for me. So what do you do when that happens? Ride your bike everyday.

This fall has been incredible. Perfect weather, perfect conditions and all the time in the world. This November I rode my mountain bike 29 out of the 30 days, and it has been the most incredible month of my life.

The Greatest sport in the world!

An outline explaining why Downhill Mountain Bike Racing is the greatest sport in the world, and why all others are inferior to it.

Many people, especially those studying Kinesiology, frequently participate in the debate that asks the question, What is the greatest sport in the world? As a somewhat opinionated person I believe that regardless of the activity/sport at hand, the question of the greatest sport is always relative and specific to the reasoning that the person who gives the answer can provide. As I sit here listening to some Disturbed, I know without a doubt in my mind what I believe to be the greatest sport in the world. Because of specific reasons I will outline why hockey, football, basketball, baseball, golf, rugby, lacrosse, volleyball, soccer, and cricket are ALL inferior to the majority of extreme sports and in particular Downhill Mountain Bike Racing.'(DMBR)

Hanover Freeride MTB Park - Year End Recap

The Hanover Freeriders worked late into the season, and some major progress has been made in getting this park rolling and open. However, now everything is wrapped up for the year and it seemed like a good time to recap on the first season of The Hanover Freeride Park and it's trails designed to cater to the beginner to intermediate riders out here in Ontario.
